What even IS self-care?
We live in a world that moves fast. So fast, sometimes, we don’t even realize we haven’t done a single thing for ourselves in days. Self-care has become a buzzword, often glamorized on social media, where it’s all about bubble baths and retreats. But let’s be real: self-care isn’t always glamorous. It’s not always about doing something “big” or Instagram-worthy. Sometimes, it’s messy, small, and quiet—and that’s okay.
Self-care is saying “no” when you’re already stretched too thin. It’s setting boundaries, even if it makes others uncomfortable because you know it’s what’s best for you. It’s making sure you drink water while you’re running around taking care of everyone else. It’s spending an extra five minutes in the shower, just letting the hot water wash over you, breathing, and letting your mind rest.
Self-care can also be as simple as noticing the world around you. Seeing the little things—the way the leaves outside twist and turn, or the dew on the grass in the morning. It’s taking a moment to breathe it all in.
For some, self-care might be traveling, catching up on sleep, or curling up in fresh, clean sheets. For others, it’s hanging out with friends, cooking a meal, or sitting in complete silence. It’s anything you do for yourself without feeling guilty or ashamed. It’s a reminder that you matter, that taking care of yourself is not a luxury—it’s necessary.
A lot of us say, “I don’t have time for self-care.” But what if I told you self-care doesn’t have to be some big production? It can be small, like spending five minutes in bed with a latte in the middle of the day, even though there’s laundry to fold and errands to run. That’s self-care. The laundry can wait.

Self-care isn’t for show. It’s not something you have to prove to anyone. It’s for you, in whatever way makes sense for you. So, find those 1-2 small things you can do today to take care of yourself. You deserve it.
